measured from home, often synching with an app for easy monitoring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">These scales use a variety of language to describe the measurements they offer, and you might see data points such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 300;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Body weight\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li This has a big impact on how accurate body fat scales are, and how their accuracy can vary from person to person. To understand why, let\u2019s take a look at how body fat scales work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_do_body_fat_scales_work\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 500;\">How do body fat scales work?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">Body fat scales work via a process called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/marathonhandbook.com\/body-fat-scale-accuracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">bioelectrical impedance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">, which measures the resistance met by an electrical current as it travels through the body.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">When you stand on a smart scale, a low-level electrical current is passed up one side of your body and down the other side of your body. The amount of time it takes for the current to pass through depends on the resistance that is met in your body.
