Who can benefit from the sports performance blood test?

Our sports performance blood test is perfect for:

  • Professional athletes
  • Marathon runners and triathletes
  • Footballers and rugby players
  • Crossfit and HYROX competitors
  • Amateur athletes
  • Gym-goers and active individuals
  • Anyone looking to understand how their activity affects their nutrition, metabolism, and overall health.
How does private blood testing work?

When you book your private blood test, you’ll attend a phlebotomy appointment at one of our lab locations in London or Manchester. Following the test, we will send your sample for processing. The results will then be analysed, and written comments added by a GP.

When this process is complete, you will receive your test report via email. This will include details of all biomarkers, whether they fall in-range, and comments from a GP. At this stage, you will also be invited to book your 1:1 consultation call with our nutritionist, Dr Rob Corney, to discuss your results and create an action plan.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed for our private blood testing services.

Can the results be shared with my GP?

We don’t typically share your results with your GP directly. However, after receiving your report, you are welcome to take your results to your GP, PT, coach, or anyone else involved in your health and training.

How much does the blood test cost?

The Sports Performance Blood Test costs £299. This price includes our phlebotomy service, processing of your test results, written comments from a registered GP, and a 30-minute 1:1 consultation with a nutritionist. You can book your blood test here

How do I prepare for my test?

For the best results from your Sports Performance Blood Test, make sure to follow the following instructions:

Timing

  • Schedule to have your blood draw completed before 1pm.
  • If you’ve been unwell, wait until symptoms of short-term illness have settled before taking this test.

Exercise

  • Avoid heavy exercise for 48 hours before your test.

Food and drink

  • You do not need to fast before this blood test.
  • Avoid fatty foods for eight hours before your test.

Medication

  • The blood test should be completed before you take any prescribed medications or vitamin/mineral supplements.
  • Corticosteroid medication can affect this test; consult your doctor before pausing any medications for testing.
  • Do not take biotin supplements for two days before this test. If these are prescribed, consult your doctor before making any changes.
  • Do not take vitamin B12 for two weeks before this test. If this is prescribed, consult your doctor before making any changes.

Menstruation

  • If you have periods, aim to have your blood drawn 2-5 days after the start of your period, ideally on day 3.
  • This test can be taken at any time if you do not have periods.
  • Hormonal contraception can affect the results of this test. Taking a break and waiting for your period to restart before your blood test will give a more accurate result.
Do I need to fast?

No — you do not need to fast before your blood panel. For the best results, please avoid fatty foods for 8 hours before your test.

How long will it take to get the results?

It takes approximately 7 working days for your sample to be processed by the lab. Following this, your results will be reviewed by a GP. We recommend you expect your results 11-12 days after your appointment.

How does the nutritionist consultation work?

After receiving your blood test report, you’ll be invited to schedule a 30-minute online consultation with our registered nutritionist, Dr Rob Corney. This appointment is an opportunity for you to put your blood test results into context and understand the interplay between your training, nutrition, and lifestyle.
